Why Do I Look So Dull?

According to Fredric Brandt, Dermatologist and Author of ‘10 Minutes 10 Years – Your Definitive Guide To a Beautiful and Youthful Appearance,” there are 2 types of ageing that takes place; extrinsic and intrinsic.
Intrinsic ageing occurs due to the shedding of our skin from time to time. This is seen as self replenishing and getting rid of the dead skin cells by the natural activity of our body itself. Accordingly, our skin shed dead skin cells every 3-4 weeks. During this time, a new skin form under our current skin and moves up when the dead skin cells are shed. This happens gradually and as would have realized, we will not even be aware of such a process taking place within our body.
When you skin gets old, this process slows down. What used to take a month will gradually take 2-3 months. Dead skin cells make your skin look dull and take away the glow which makes you look old. Moreover, the accumulation of dead skin cells will enlarge your pores. Enlarged pores make your skin look even older.
The collagen level in our body decreases as we age. Collagen is the vital factor that keeps our skin supple and tight. When the level of collagen decreases, our skin loses its elasticity and will tend to sag which makes you look older.
Recent studies have found out that the level of Hyaluraunic acid level in our skin also plays a vital role in enhancing our skin and how it looks. You would have noticed that many skin care brands highlight that their product contains Hyaluraunic acid in order to get your attention. As such, the importance cannot be emphasized enough. As you age, the level of Hyaluraunic acid decreases as well.
Extrinsic Ageing includes whatever that comes from the outside and those that do not form the natural ageing process. Lack of exercise, unhealthy eating habits (especially excess sugar intake), sun exposure, lack of sleep, stress, smoking, excessive consumption of alcohol and many other external factors also cause your skin to age faster.
